Local Impoundment Endows Freshwater Beauty and Space of Grassy Paths and Embankment

Lake Shenandoah, a 36 acre impoundment owned by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is located in Rockingham County having urban development surrounding it. The lake is overall shallow (less than 3 feet with its maximum depth near the dam of 25 feet. It is said to feed off of excessive nutrients entering the lake, which keeps the water green with algal blooms through most of the year. Here anglers have the opportunity to catch largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, common carp, channel catfish and musky.

The lake offers bikers a grassy and dirt path from the gravel parking area (west) to the dam (east) with plenty of area to relax and reflect.
