A Nobler Species: Generative Abiding at Purcell Park

What does this beautiful old tree* and the bike share in common?

The bicycle is a zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV); it emits no exhaust gas from the onboard source of power such as CO2, a Greenhouse Gas (other than occasional flatulence). The tree holds a
Purcell Park,
nobler state in the ecosystem. While it too emits zero emissions of greenhouse gases, it instead absorbs and retains carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration from the atmosphere. Add to this, through the leaves, bark, and roots, trees absorb or capture pollutants from the atmosphere such as dust, chlorine, sulfur dioxide, fluorides, among others. If that were not enough from these meek species, they produce oxygen among other benefits.

In is no wonder that planting billions of trees across the world is one of the biggest and cheapest ways of taking CO2 out of the atmosphere to tackle the climate crisis.  Source: “Forestrestoration: Transformative trees—Response” in Science, 18 Oct 2019: Vol. 366, Issue 6463, pp. 317
